Cinematique Film:

"In Bruges "

In Bruges was filmed on location; Bruges (pronounced "broozh"), the most well-preserved medieval city in the whole of Belgium, is a welcoming destination for travelers from all over the world. But for hit men Ray (Colin Farrell) and Ken (Brendan Gleeson), it could be their final destination; a difficult job has resulted in the pair being ordered right before Christmas by their London boss Harry (two-time Academy Award nominee Ralph Fiennes) to go and cool their heels for a couple of weeks.
The longer they stay waiting for Harry's call, the more surreal their experience becomes, as they find themselves in weird encounters with locals, tourists, violent medieval art, a dwarf American actor (Jordan Prentice) shooting a European art film, Dutch "professional ladies," and a potential romance for Ray in the form of Chloë (Clémence Poésy), who may have some dark secrets of her own.
When the call from Harry does finally come, Ken and Ray's vacation becomes a life-and-death struggle of darkly comic proportions and surprisingly emotional consequences.

Main Stage. 7:30 PM. $7.00 general admission.

107 minutes. Rated R.

Opera House Theatre Company

The setting is the Assembly Chamber of a state Legislature, where a determinedly liberal and unpopular lady legislator presses for passage of a bill requiring druggists to place contraceptive devices in plain view with prices clearly marked.
Her shocked colleagues, a motley, self-serving crew of political hacks, react with platitudes and inane counter-proposals, mostly motivated by fear of their constituents' displeasure.
As they bicker hilariously among themselves, deliver fatuous speeches, and play to the visitors gallery, the playwright fixes them all with a deliciously wicked eye - and out, of the farcical doings, raises some very funny questions about the suitability and purposefulness of our elected representatives.

Studio Theatre. 8:00, except Sundays at 3:00. General Admission $15.

The Wizard of Oz
The Thalian Association Community Theatre

Adapted by John Kane for the
Royal Shakespeare Company

Based on the book by Frank L. Baum

Music by Harold Arlen
Lyrics by E. Y. Harburg

May 8-18, 2008

Little Dorothy Gale from Kansas dreams of what lies beyond the rainbow. One day a twister hits her farm and carries her away to the land of Oz. Her efforts to escape the clutches of a wicked witch and to return home - with the help of her travel companions the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion - form the narrative arc of this beloved classic. Created by the renowned Royal Shakespeare Company, this extravagant adaptation retains the adored songs from the film including “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” “If I Only Had a Brain,” “Ding-Dong, the Witch is Dead” and “Follow the Yellow Brick Road.”

Main Stage. 8:00 PM except Saturdays at 3:00 and 8:00 PM, Sundays at 3:00 PM only.
Reserved seating, $20/$18 for students and seniors.

The next Cinematique Film will be:

Monday through Wednesday, May 19-21

"Married Life "

A strong blend of suspense, star-crossed romance, and wry comedy of manners, Married Life is an unconventional human drama about the irresistible power and utter madness of love. Harry (Chris Cooper) decides he must kill his wife Pat (Patricia Clarkson) because he loves her too much to let her suffer when he leaves her. Harry and his much-younger girlfriend Kay (Rachel McAdams) are head over heels in love, but his best friend Richard (Pierce Brosnan) wants to win Kay for himself. As Harry implements his awkward plans for murdering his wife, the other characters are occupied with their own deceptions. Like Harry, they are overwhelmed by their passions. but still struggle to avoid hurting others. Married Life is an uncommonly adult film that surprises and confounds expectations. While it plays with mystery and intrigue, its ultimate concern is: “What is married life?” In its sly way, Married Life poses perceptive questions about the seasonal discontents and unforeseen joys of all long-term relationships.
90 minutes. Rated PG-13

Main Stage. 7:30 PM. $7.00 general admission.

The Piano Men—
Jim Witter sings the Music of Billy Joel & Elton John

Dove and Juno Award nominee, Canadian recording artist Jim Witter and his band lead an expertly crafted tour of an entire decade, a musical time machine saluting two of the century’s most popular contemporary songwriters, Billy Joel and Elton John. Enthralled audiences return to the news headlines, automobiles, people, events and TV shows that shaped a decade. Along the way, the sounds of “My Life,” “Candle in the Wind,” “Rocket Man,” “Just the Way You Are” and many more classic hits create return visits to specific landmarks along a pop culture timeline. If you can still smell the interior of your 1973 VW Beetle, you’ll recognize every song. If you watch re-runs of Gilligan’s Island or Green Acres, you’ll find yourself singing along. If you remember exactly where you were when Elvis [may have] died, this is the show for you.

Main Stage. $28 Reserved seating Parquet and Mezzanine. $20 general admission Gallery.
