The Studio Theatre is located on the second floor of the new wing and is a multi-use facility.

RENTAL

  • The Studio Theatre may be rented for a wide variety of performance and event activities. Rates vary depending on daily vs. weekly use, rehearsal vs. performance use and private organizations vs. not-for-profit organizations. Rental does not include Box Office fee, technical labor, piano tuning, special equipment. Thalian Hall provides ushers, front of house, and concessionaires. Rental clients must make application to the Executive Director at 910-343-3660 in the business office of the Thalian Hall Center for the Performing Arts, Inc.

SEATING

  • In keeping with the multi-use concept, seating in the Studio Theatre is flexible. Maximum fire code capacity is 100 seats. In order to fit this many people into the Studio Theatre, there can be no set. Normal capacity for theatrical presentations is between 60 and 100 seats. Thalian Hall Center staff will add seating platforms and chairs after the space has been defined. Ticket sales are capped at 50 until the Technical Director has approved an increase in the capacity.

Dressing Rooms

  • All dressing rooms are equipped with mirrors, make-up lighting, costume racks and monitors on which pages and announcements may be posted. The chorus dressing room has hot and cold water, showers, sinks, and toilets

STUDIO THEATRE ROOM DIMENSIONS

  • The stage floor is light gray industrial tile over a concrete slab. The floor can not be painted, drilled, or screwed into.

The Studio Theatre has access to loading by way of the loading stairs, which are located to the right of the large loading dock door. The Studio Theatre does not have access to a loading elevator.

STAGE RIGGING AND DRESSING

  • The Studio Theatre has a 7'x30' mirrored wall located upstage of the gray traveler
  • The Studio Theatre's back stage exit door is 6'-7" high by 3'-10" wide
  • The Studio Theatre has a catering kitchen.
  • The Studio Theatre has no fly system. It has an open grid. The grid is constructed of 1-1/4" steel pipe on 5'-0" centers
  • The Studio Theatre has 6 black velour legs, which measure 6'x16'
  • The Studio Theatre has a gray velour traveler 32'x16' which is located against mirrored wall.
  • The Studio Theatre has a black velour traveler 32'x16' which is located immediately downstage of the gray traveler

ELECTRICS AND LIGHTING

  • The control booth is located on the third floor of the new wing
  • A one-man genie lift is available for hanging and focus
  • An assortment of ladders is available for lighting or set work
  • The Studio Theatre is equipped with a ETC Expression computerized lighting console. There are a total of 24 Channels of dimmers, each rated at 2.4k.
  • There are a total of 56 Circuits located in groups of 4 throughout the grid. The circuits terminate at a patch panel located in the Booth, allowing for a hard patch into the dimmers.

  • The above represents the instruments dedicated to The Studio Theatre. There are usually instruments available from the Main Stage inventory. You must clear the use of Main Stage lighting instruments with the THCPA Technical Director.

SOUND INVENTORY

  • The control Booth is located on the third floor of the new wing (Gallery Level)
  • The Studio Theatre has 4 speakers, which can be moved by tenet to suit their show
  • The Studio Theatre does not have a mixing console
  • The Studio Theatre does not have microphones. At times they can be borrowed from the Main Stage inventory. Please contact the Technical Office at 343.3663 for more information on microphones

Intercom System

  • The Studio Theatre uses a clear-com system. The master control station is located at the Stage managers area (SR) on Main Stage. The system allows for communication with all areas of the theatre, as well as paging to all dressing rooms. The Studio Theatre will always be using Channel A. Please do not use any other channels as this may interfere with other productions in the facility
