PerformanceSpecial EventsAs a not-for-profit organization, Thalian Hall Center for the Performing Arts holds annual benefit events to raise the funds needed to operate the facility. One aspect of fundraising consists of special events designed around entertainment and fun for the entire community while providing funds for Thalian Hall’s ongoing restoration and operation. Events Include:Taste of The Town – Thalian Hall Center for the Performing Arts, Inc. and Downtown Wilmington restaurants have organized a taste expedition to allow past, present, and future theatre-goers the opportunity to experience diverse selections of downtown dining. “Taste of the Town” is a benefit for the ongoing restoration efforts for the jewel of downtown Wilmington, Thalian Hall. Patrons will get to sample of some of Wilmington’s great restaurants. Last year, more than a dozen restaurants signed on to provide a taste of their great food, including Basics, Front Street Brewery, Fat Tony’s, German Café, Hot Pink Cake Stand, Aubriana’s, Elijah’s, Reel Café, Caffe Phoenix and more! These fun evenings begins at Thalian Hall (310 Chestnut Street) where participants pick up their Taste of the Town passports and expedition maps to start visiting the restaurants and sampling their fare and experiencing the unique atmosphere of each restaurant. Tickets prices and the date for the 2011 Taste of the Town will be announced soon. Patrons must start at Thalian Hall to pick up their tickets.
The Bible Salesman - Nationally recognized North Carolina based novelist/performer/playwright/writing instructor Clyde Edgerton was joined by Broadway and Music veteran Mike Craver in a musical reader's theatre performace of highlights from Mr. Edgerton's latest novel "The Bible Salesman." The story of a gullible young bible salesman in post-WWII North Carolina who is duped into unwittingly becoming the accomplice of a car thief was presented by Thalian Hall Center for the Performing Arts and WHQR 91.3FM Public Radio as a joint fundraiser on October 16-19, 2009. Guest Artist Galas – Linda Lavin, Tony Award and Golden Globe Award recipient, is one of the spectacular musical guests who have performed private gala concerts for which proceeds benefited the operation and maintenance of Thalian Hall. SS Thalia Fantasy Cruise – 2009 was the kick-off for Thalian Hall’s major fundraiser which turned the Hall into a cruise ship for the evening with a luau buffet, casino style gaming, live music and dancing, live auction, raffle, bingo and with a full musical revue, “Lullaby of Broadway” with a live band, on the Main Stage directed by Ray Kennedy.
